University of Wollongong excels in QS Subject Rankings
Mining engineering and nursing top UOW's subject rankings
The University of Wollongong’s (UOW) excellence across a range of academic subjects was showcased in the QS Rankings by Subject 2024, released today (Wednesday 10 April) by global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
UOW performed strongly, ranking among the world’s best in 30 narrow subject areas and in all five broad subject areas, underscoring the University’s success in delivering high-quality education and research across diverse disciplines.
In two narrow subject areas, mining engineering and nursing, UOW was ranked in the top 100 universities in the world.
Engineering and Technology was UOW’s best performed broad subject area, standing equal 212th globally reflecting the University’s excellence in engineering and information sciences.
UOW ranked 223rd in Natural Sciences (a rise of 42 places on the previous year), equal 249th in Social Sciences and Management (up nine places), equal 258th in Arts and Humanities globally, and equal 374th in Life Sciences and Medicine (up 14 places).
QS analysed the reputation and research output of close to 5,000 universities to produce the rankings.
UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Patricia M. Davidson thanked staff for enhancing UOW’s standing on the global stage.
“The latest QS Rankings by Subject reaffirm UOW's commitment to academic excellence and innovation,” Professor Davidson said.
“We are proud of our faculty, staff, and students for their relentless pursuit of knowledge and their contributions to shaping a brighter future.
“As UOW continues to uphold its standards of excellence, these rankings serve as a testament to the dedication of our staff to providing a world-class education experience and making a positive impact on society.”
In other notable achievements UOW ranked in the top 150 in the world in sports-related subjects, civil and structural engineering, and materials science; and in the top 200 in archaeology, accounting and finance, business and management studies, law, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, geography, geology, and geophysics.
